Book Drive

Education is vitally important to future achievement in life. The United Methodist Church has a long history of supporting the education of children and adults. Weller UMC continues that tradition each year with volunteers who help at nearby Sabillasville Elementary School. Volunteers spend an hour or more each week helping children with reading and math.

Each spring, we run a book drive to collect books for summertime reading. We began in 2014 with books for one class. Today, we collect enough books so that each of the roughly 115 children at the school receive three books to take home for the summer. The Thurmont Lions Club provides book bags.

The book drive is one way Weller UMC commits to help our local schools and students.

The 2019 book drive collected over 400 books, which were distributed to the children on the last day of school (June 15). Thanks to everyone who helped make this year’s Drive a success.
